About Us

K-B Pet Adoption & Welfare Services  was born in the Goldfields in March 2007. Embarrassingly, our community has one of the highest rates of animal abandonment, pound turnover/euthanasia and some serious and shocking animal welfare issues which largely go unnoticed and are not prosecuted by authorities.

With no RSPCA presence to deter irresponsible ownership, the issues are generally left to our local Rangers Services who do not have a suitable holding facility or financial support to tackle the problems we face in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. We recognise that the 'pet' problems will continue to rise until the community forms it's own group to combat the issues.

Until recently, Kalgoorlie-Boulder has never had a professionally run companion animal organisation who could deal with a range of issues.

KB P.A.W.S started out as an idea almost 12 months ago. A group of like minded people got together after much community consultation and decided to stop talking about it and implement a strategy that the community and our pets will benefit from.

The next 12 months will bring some of the most positive and exciting changes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the way in which we view our companion animals.

KB P.A.W.S has been set up for you, the people in our community to become a part of the solution. KB PAWS consists of 6 committee members who will force our local issues to be dealt with.

Over the next 12 months, with your support we hope to achieve the following :

  • Establish a cost price desexing clinic to make responsible pet ownership affordable. This will also break the cycle of breeding from unwanted pets that have been abandoned. Initially, this will only be available to the pets being adopted from the pound and directly through our Adoption yard. Reduced price Vaccinations and Microchipping will also be incorporated into the clinic.
  • Design & Implement an approved Child Education clinic. With assistance from our Rangers service, we will be working to establish an approved program for school children to learn the basics in responsible pet care and how to avoid dangerous situations ( dog safety seminars).
  • Raise awareness of Animal Welfare issues in our community and have 2 members approved as Independant Animal Welfare Officers who will have similar powers as an RSPCA inspector to legally remove mistreated animals from any bad situation.
  • Expand on the Adoption & Rehousing of unwanted pets who would otherwise be euthanised.
  • Assist pet owners in understanding the Pet / Pet owner relationship and the legal obligations and responsibility that comes with being a pet owner today.
  • To lobby Local and State Government to introduce sensible and workable animal control legislation which our members may feel is currently inadequate.

Most importantly...

We need you!

To make all of this possible, we need members, sponsorship & donations. We are offering membership to join KB P.A.W.S to assist us in turning the problem around. Becoming an Incorporated Association, KB P.A.W.S will be completely transparent in it's workings and will be answerable to our members.

Our Membership conditions and application forms will be downloadable from this site in the very near future.

This is a chance for Goldfields residents to show the rest of W.A that we work together as a community and can achieve anything we want to. Let's stop throwing the issues into the 'too hard basket' and help us fix it !
